Maintenance Windows: How to Handle Planned Website Downtime
Learn how planned maintenance windows help distinguish expected service interruptions from unexpected website incidents, without losing monitoring history.
What Are Maintenance Windows?
A maintenance window is a scheduled period for work that may affect your website or its availability. Common examples include software updates, server maintenance, infrastructure changes, database migrations and planned deployments.
Why Do Maintenance Windows Matter?
Monitoring can detect an outage even when you already know that maintenance is taking place. Without a way to account for planned work, expected interruptions may trigger unnecessary notifications. Scheduled maintenance windows help reduce this noise while keeping monitoring information available for investigation.
How Maintenance Windows Work in Viglar
You can schedule a maintenance window for planned work on a monitored domain. During the window, Viglar suppresses notifications covered by the maintenance handling while scans and event recording continue. This lets you retain visibility into what happened instead of simply turning monitoring off.
A maintenance window is not a repair mechanism and does not make a website available. If a problem is still active after the window ends, Viglar can notify you according to its alert handling.

Schedule ahead
Create the window before maintenance begins and choose a period that covers the expected work.
Use realistic time ranges
Allow enough time for the planned work, but avoid unnecessarily long windows that could hide notifications about unrelated problems.
Check the result
After maintenance, review monitoring results and events to confirm that the website and its important services are behaving as expected.
